Down With Skool

As a child I was a reluctant reader, or according to my teachers, lazy.

One Christmas, a well meaning friend of the family bought me book tokens, in a not very subtle attempt to encourage me to embrace the printed word. A few days later, tokens in pocket, I caught the bus to Staines and headed for the book section of WHSmith, wondering what I might find that could possibly inspire me to read. I discovered this inspirational trilogy. I was of course mainly interested in Ronald Searle’s amazing illustrations. To be fair though, the carefully crafted prose did improov my speling kno end.
